Manchester United 1-1 A.C. Milan: Player ratings as the red devil’s collapse

By Joshua White

Manchester United fail to hold onto their 1 goal lead scored by substitute Amad Diallo, a beautiful header scored with the back of head from another great pass from Bruno. Simon Kjaer scored the goal in the 92nd minute to get the vital away goal, with a good header that Dean Henderson should have saved, this goal set up a great second leg next week Thursday.

Milan dominated the first half and had put the ball in the back of the net twice and both were disallowed. One was rightly offside but the second which was a brilliant volley from Kessie, is a controversial one, VAR believed it struck his hand but with a different angle it looked clear to fans on twitter and pundits that it did not. Maguire also missed an absolute sitter which had everyone including himself confused, as he went on to hit the post from 2 yards out.

Amad scored his goal 5 minutes into the second half to give the hosts the lead, Daniel James also went on to miss another clear opportunity to help extend Manchester united lead which they went on to pay for when Kjaer scored from a late corner which dean Henderson should have done much better with, he managed to get his hand to it but pushed it into his own net.

Overall, Milan deserved a draw at the minimum, United missed two good opportunities which in any other day they score but Milan was dominant for both halves, they had United pinned back for almost 20mins and were controlling the game but lacked quality with their final ball. Fair result for both teams and here’s how both sides rated in the 1-1 draw from Old Trafford.

Manchester United player ratings

Dean Henderson (GK) -4/10- Was good early on in the game with fairly comfortable saves but failed to stop Milan from scoring with a shot that he should have saved.

Aaron Wan-Bassika (RB) -5/10- His passing was quite poor on the night only, 84% pass accuracy, was good defensively as usual most attacks came down the other side but attacking wise was pretty average.

Eric Bailey (CB) -6/10- He won the majority of his one on ones with Milan’s strikers, used his pace to bail out Maguire multiple times and high accurate passing with 92.7%.

Harry Maguire (CB) -6/10- Missed an open goal which would have helped United end the game more comfortably but was good aerial as usual.

Alex Telles (LB) -6/10- Caught out positionally a few times but was never punished by Milan but got forward well. His usual delivery was not great but worked hard for the team.

Scott Mctominay (CDM) -/10- Was lucky not to be sent off by avoiding a second yellow card in the game, was good on the ball with 92% pass accuracy, work rate was high as usual.

Nemanja Matic (CDM) -/10- A fairly quiet game for Matic, did his usual job, 3 interceptions, 4 tackles and 2 blocked shots but moved the ball quite slowly.

Daniel James (LW) -5/10- Missed an open goal, made some good runs and helped with defensive work, pretty average night for him.

Bruno Ferenades (CAM) -7/10- A typical performance from him, lost the ball a number of times but created that bit off magic that the game needed with his brilliant assist to Diallo. He came off in the 74th minute when his team was still 1-0 up.

Mason Greenwood (RW) -/10- A quiet game for Mason, deserved an assist but Daniel James missed the opportunity, he began to drop deeper and deeper because he was not getting the ball from the midfield.
Anthony Martial (ST) -5/10- A rather quiet fast half for him, one good shot from outside the box, not much was created for him and he unfortunately got injured and was subbed up before the second half.

Amad Diallo (RW) -7/10- Nearly the perfect debut from him, great finish with the back of head, great movement.

Fred (CDM) -5/10-

A.C. Milan player ratings

Davide Calabria (RB) -/10- He was taking advantage of the huge amount of space left on Telles side, but his final ball was not great, he looked solid defensively.

Simon Kjaer (CB) -8/10- He scored the vital goal to bring his side level in the 92nd of the match, gave Martial truly little opportunity to do anything in the first half and was strong the whole night.

Fikayo Tomori (CB) -5/10- Looked great with the ball at his feet but was caught out by Diallo goal for United first goal.

Diogo Dalot (LB) -6/10- Back to his parent club with a decent performance, always available to whip in a cross for the attackers but they just were not in the right positions.
