George Moncur’s free-kick helps Luton Town deepen Wycombe’s relegation fears
By Dan Briard
George Moncur admitted he knew his free-kick was goal-bound as soon as he saw it bend the wall in the 3-1 comeback victory against Wycombe Wanderers.
Minutes after coming off the bench, Moncur scored from trademark range to equalise for the Hatters, which was then followed by goals from Kazenga LuaLua and Elijah Adebayo.
“That position for me is one that I really like,” the 27-year-old said. “Not a lot of people think you are going to go that way around the wall. I know the technique I have, and thankfully, praise God that it went in.

“To be fair, when I hit them in training and I know it is going in, I always say ‘goodnight’ and as soon as it went round the wall, I thought goodnight!
The former Barnsley man has been an unused substitute in the last two matches but came on to great affect at Adams Park, equalising against the ten-men of Wycombe.
“I try and be the best player I can every day in training, it is obviously difficult as a player, but I have said before, when I’ve been out and when I have been in, I never get too up and I never get too down because I just think it is a gift from God even to get a chance to play. He has never left me in the dirt before so he isn’t going to do it again, that is the way I live life and go through it.”
His attempt was then arguably topped by LuaLua moments later, and Moncur was full of praise for his teammate.
“He has that in the locker all day long and whoever comes on always does well, always changes the game in the way that they can and to be fair, we weren’t even going to do a short corner but they left one out so I ran over, laid it quick and then he did the rest, which is the hardest part!”
The midfielder was also keen to say how much he enjoys being a part of the football club on a day-to-day basis, explaining: “I love it here, I’m not going to beat around it at all. I love training every day, love the boys, love everyone about the place. I’m not going to play every game, I don’t expect to, who knows what happens in the future, but I am happy with where I am at the minute.”
