Manchester United Vs. Arsenal Preview

By Jan Zyla

On the 2nd December 2021 Manchester United welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford, a fixture that both teams see as a must win, with Red Devils recently sacking their Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer they will be hoping for all 3 points at home to try and challenge for a top 4 finish and likewise the Gunners from the Emirates Stadium will be hoping for all 3 points as they are knocking on the door of the top 4 as they currently sit 5th in the Premier League table.

In Manchester United’s last game in the Premier League, they drew 1-1 against current league leaders Chelsea. It was a performance only enough for a draw. It looked like Michael Carrick’s, who is the current caretaker manager since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked a couple of days ago, gameplan was to go to the league leaders and not lose no matter what. The final counted shots for Chelsea was 24 shots with 6 landing on target whilst on the other hand, Manchester United had 3 shots with 2 on target. The Red Devils scored 1st in the match when Jorginho’s touch was a little too heavy and gave Jadon Sancho a 2 v 1 against Edouard Mendy with Marcus Rashford next to Sancho. However, Sancho went alone and got his goal.

Manchester United did not start Cristiano Ronaldo against Chelsea and that could have been a big reason that United did draw against the Blues and not beat them instead. Manchester United have appointed an Interim Manager until the end of the season in Ralf Rangnik however Michael Carrick will take charge of the game against Arsenal as Rangnik and co. still need to sort out paperwork regarding the visa and in regard to Covid. The main players for Manchester United in the game against Arsenal will be Jadon Sancho and David De Gea. In the last 2 games that Jadon Sancho started against Villarreal in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Premier League he scored in both games and that is why he is crucial to Manchester United efforts. David De Gea is also a very crucial player for the Red Devils as he is the last line of defence and very reliable in goal even when mistakes from players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire happen, David De Gea is there to clean up after them on most occasions.

Arsenal’s last game was a 2-0 win over Newcastle United. Goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the lead. In the match against the Magpies Arsenal dominated, this can be seen through statistics that were gathered in the match. Arsenal had 66% possession and 24 shots in contrast to Newcastle’s 9 shots. The manager of Arsenal Mikel Arteta will be hoping for all 3 points as he and his team are hoping for Champions League qualification through the league which is a top 4 finish in the Premier League. The crucial players for Arsenal will be Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale. Martin Odegaard is very influential in the Arsenal Midfield as he lets Arsenal’s attacking plays run smoothly with his expert passing and vision. Aaron Ramsdale also in his own right has saved the Gunners from losing on countless occasions, most notably with saves against Newcastle United in the previous game and his free kick save against Leicester City which are both up there to be the saves of the season.

Whatever the result will be at Old Trafford, it is sure to be one hell of a match that pits Michael Carrick’s Manchester United against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
