England have beaten Senegal 3-0 in their last 16 encounter to book their place in the quarter finals against France on Saturday evening. England started the first half in familiar fashion very slow. They had small glimpses with Kane coming close to opening his account with some good goalkeeping from Mendy, but it was Jude Bellingham’s footwork to get around the solid defence of Senegal and to then square it across the box for Jordan Henderson for the opener to put England 1-0 up in the 39th minute. Following the opener, England became stronger in their possession and build up play which allowed Phil Foden to dribble through the centre of Senegal’s midfield and start a counterattack. Foden played a lovely ball to Harry Kane to slash the ball passed Mendy leaving him no chance, allowing the captain to open his account for the tournament. The three lions went into half time with a healthy 2-0 lead and one foot already in the quarter finals. Starting the second half the way they ended the first meant another goal, this time coming from Bukayo Saka. Once again Phil Foden was involved in the build-up play, with most of the team contributing to England’s final goal of the game, by dribbling passed the defenders, getting to the by-line and putting a ball into the box allowing Saka to delicately chip Mendy into the far corner to finish the match England 3-0 Senegal.
