2 realistic summer transfers to help Manchester United win the Premier League title
By Josh Mayne
After a successful first season with Erik Ten Haag as head coach, Manchester United will be setting their goals high for the Premier Leagues 2023/24 season, which begins on August 11th, where Burnley host the defending champions of Manchester City at Turf moor. Manchester United have already had a busy transfer window which kicked off by not giving Goalkeeper David De Gea a new contract, despite the four-time player of the year winner and Premier League golden glove winner from 22/23 season wanting to stay. This meant United needed a new first-choice goalkeeper and proceeded to strike a £47.2 million deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. Additionally, midfielder Mason Mount joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in July for a deal worth £60 million, helping to improve the quality of United’s midfield.
With the start of the new season looming, Manchester United are still looking to improve the squad for the 23/24 season. Here are some players that would help boost United’s chances of challenging for a Premier League title.
The 20-Year-Old striker from Atalanta is one of Europe’s best emerging young talents that Erik Ten Hag has watched very closely last season with Atalanta. The Danish international has been attracting lots of interest from European giants including Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain, with a £60m fee being reported for the striker. Hojland who has scored 9 goals in 32 appearances in his first season with Atalanta in Italy, is a tall, pacey and clinical striker who looks to run in behind defensive lines and use his powerful left foot to strike the ball when shooting. These types of attributes may remind you of a certain tall, blonde striker that plays for Manchester City, however, Hojland is much more of a raw talent compared to the Norwegian, so let’s not compare the two just yet. Hojland would fit like a glove in Manchester United’s team, who are severely lacking a ‘goal threat’ in the striker position, with only Antony Martial as the recognised striker at the club currently.
Amrabat is a central midfielder who plays his football for Fiorentina in Italy. The 26-year-old has attracted plenty of interest after staring for his country Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, which was a staggering achievement and is valued at a reported £40 million. Amrabat is versatile in the midfield, being able to play from box-to-box with his ability to cover ground quickly and with him being very physical. His fantastic range of passing, good vision and comfortableness with the ball at his feet means he can kick-start attacks from a deep midfield position. This is perfect for Manchester United who like to dominate teams with and without the ball, therefore, Amrabat would allow for more calmness and precision when in possession, whilst also having the ability to win the ball back quickly with the counter-pressing style that Erik Ten Hag likes to deploy with his teams.
With the addition of these two players, Manchester United’s chances of challenging for a Premier League title would increase dramatically, as they need to keep brining in the right players for the right price; something they have struggled with in recent times.
