Kyle Lowry stays in Toronto
By Matthew Skilton
Not even 24 hours ago superstar point guard Kyle Lowry’s future in Toronto was very cloudy as teams were circling to snap him up.
The Toronto Raptors fended off the likes of the LA Lakers and Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat on trade deadline day to keep the face of their franchise who is in the discussion of being their greatest ever player. Lowry is the Raptors’ second highest point scorer and is the franchise leader is assists, steals, 3-pointers, and triple doubles.
Even Lowry was unsure of his future, stating in a press conference “I don’t know. I wish I could give you a decision. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t”. It’s clear now the Raptors’ front office still have faith in Lowry and want to utilise him in their efforts to usher in their next generation of stars for the rest of the season.
In hindsight for Lowry, toughing out the rest of the season on his expiring contract now gives him full control over his future. He can either stay in Toronto, where he’s dubbed “the king of the north” or he goes to a contender where he knows he will fit in, rather than forcing a trade somewhere that may not work out.
For years we have seen Lowry’s stubbornness on and off the court and after making Toronto his home for the past nine years he may elect to run it back once again in the north.
