Racism: How can we put a stop to this?

By Darren Reginald

The term racism can be reflected as discrimination or injustice towards an individual, community or the society going against their own race, religion or ethnic group. This is a genuine issue going on in this world even though this has been going on for almost one hundred years. My views on this is racism can impact a person or a group of people badly due to their skin colour or religion. This type of topic is more of a widespread issue to this world because racism every day in work places, public transport, in sports clubs and everywhere. Modern day racism is often built on social experiences of genetic differences between individuals. These ideas can take the shape of social behaviours and political systems in which different races are rated as essentially advanced or substandard to each other.
Especially in work places racism has played a massive role for the past years. The majority of the Black people, Asians, Minorities and Ethnic group have experienced racial abuse from other colleagues and managers as well. According to sources, there is an approximation that 84% of the BAME Brits still believe that UK is still very racist. Even though there is a whole Black Lives Matter campaign occurring, sources reveal that still Black people, Asians, Minorities and Ethnic group of people still receive the abuse and this has not reduced over the last 30 years.
In the UK alone, racism took place in these five sectors. Racism plays a part in:
• Employment
• Education
• Crime
• Living standards
• Health Care

BLACK LIVES MATTER

This campaign called Black Lives Matter has become more of a worldwide campaign than a small organization that dated back in 2013. Black Lives Matter has been introduced back in 2013. The three organisers that produced this movement were Alicia Garza, Patrice Cullors, and Opal Tometi. The idea of this campaign was to put an end to police brutality towards Black people in the United States. For example, in 2012, a teenager in Florida was shot dead. He was named Trayvon Martin. He walked in his neighbourhood and the neighbourhood watcher thought Trayvon looked suspicious and he called the police officers on him. The watcher had a major dispute with him and he shot him dead. He told the police it was for his self-defence. He was arrested in April 2012 for second degree murder.
The name Black Lives Matter indicates the disapproval of Black people being killed by police. (Black people have a higher chance of being killed by police in the United States than white people) and the claim that society value the lives of Black people as much as it values the lives and humanity of white people.
Ever since Black lives movement occurred for nine years running, the movement has developed to forty different nations across the world which is good. The main objective at the time was to bring more people to show their support to this campaign. The activist of this campaign is trying to spread the message by saying Black people are getting treated unfairly in the society and the circumstances in which regulations maintain that injustice. The group has battled with racism through letter-writing campaigns and dozens of nonviolent protests especially during the George Floyd protest. BLM seeks to fight police violence, the over protective of minority neighbourhoods.
Sadly not only in the United States, everywhere in the world there is always racism going on for more than one hundred years. We can stop racism by acting smarter and not making fun of anyone’s culture. Even though it can be said as a joke, this can lead to racism.
